The Philly Pops are the 'No Name Pops' no more.

"The mission of the group is to play all styles of music to all of Philadelphia," says Matthew Koveal, Executive Director of the Philly Pops.

They're reborn to perform.

They performed their first full orchestral show on July 3 and introduced their new music director at the same time.

"We're here to play the music that our audience really wants to hear," says Christopher Dragon, Music Director for the Philly Pops. "I've always enjoyed conducting all these different kinds of genres so, for me, pairing up with the Pops is a dream come true."

On August 7, the Philly Pops take the stage at The Mann Center, along with Jacob Collier making his Mann debut.

"Jacob Collier is a Grammy Award-winning artist," says Koveal.

"He will be performing with the orchestra but also engaging with the audience in a very interactive and exciting way," says Catherine Cahill, President and CEO of The Mann Center for the Performing Arts.

Dragon says Collier often turns the audience into "a giant choir."

Koveal adds that in addition to the audience participation, there can also be "improvisation with the orchestra."

"Jacob Collier, to me, is one of the musical geniuses of today," says Dragon.

"He brings a tremendous breadth of artistry," says Cahill. "And he'll be with his mother who will be conducting, Suzie, the Maestra."

The 31-year-old British musician composes and sings a variety of musical genres.

"Classical, pop, R&B, jazz, you name it, he does it," she says.

"He takes all different styles of music and puts it into his own art form, very much like how the Philly Pops does," says Koveal.

"Our goal is to make symphonic music as accessible as we can and to truly make it for everyone," says Dragon.

"We love to say that The Mann is what summer sounds like," says Cahill. "Come and enjoy."
