Jazz Under The Stars returns to the Mann this fall! Join us in our Crescendo tent for two intimate evenings of jazz overlooking the Philadelphia skyline. Don’t miss dynamic trumpeter, composer, and producer Rick Braun on September 7 and soulful jazz singer Maysa on October 7. Both evenings will feature Gerald Veasley Band. Gerald Veasley, a legendary American jazz bass guitarist, is the Mann’s first-ever Jazz Curator and will assist in programming quality jazz concerts at the Mann for seasons to come.

Please note: Your ticket does not include food or drink. There will be a selection of food truck offerings and beverages available for purchase at the performance. SEPTA's Mann Loop will not run for this performance.

About the Artists

Fans of good soul music and music that is good for the soul have known and appreciated Maysa Leak for 30 plus years. We knew and appreciated her even when we didn’t know it. Maysa lent her backing vocals to Stevie Wonder’s Jungle Fever soundtrack. We knew her as the best known and best loved of the rotating roster of super talented vocalists who helped create Incognito’s signature jazz/funk throughout the 1990s and into the 21st century. Maysa voice – sultry, jazzy and soulful – powered Incognito to international super stardom on a series of albums in the 1990s. Maysa seamlessly made the transition to a solo career that has yielded 14 highly acclaimed albums and sold-out live performances, cementing her reputation as one of the best artists working in the game today. "Maysa's consummate artistry spawns a redolent nod to the past while simultaneously creating her own unique and soulful sound," says NPR.

Gerald Veasley’s musical odyssey has taken him to the top of the contemporary music world as a bassist, bandleader, composer, producer, educator, and curator. His performance as a six-string bassist has been top shelf, as his extensive body of work attests. Veasley has recorded or performed with many of the world’s top artists in Jazz, R&B and Gospel including Grover Washington Jr., Joe Zawinul, Kirk Whalum, Will Downing, Chuck Loeb, Maysa, Nnenna Freelon, Special EFX, Pieces of a Dream, McCoy Tyner, and more. Gerald Veasley is also the curator of the Unscripted Jazz Series at SOUTH Jazz Club, an educator at University of the Arts, and the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Gerald Veasley’s Bass BootCamp. Veasley also serves his community as President of the non-profit organization, Jazz Philadelphia. His life as a creative professional is clearly multifaceted. Indeed, he wears various “hats” yet he is motivated by a singular purpose – to translate his joy of music to the world – music without boundaries.
