The Mann Center is launching the Music Industry Apprenticeship Program (MIAP), a first-of-its-kind post-high school theater tech training program. This program will provide hourly wages and a full on-the-job training schedule offering trainees (ages 18-24) working experience in a consortium of partner work sites within the theater tech industry. Launching in the summer of 2024, this program is the next chapter after the Mann Center’s 3-year high school program at Overbrook High School and School of the Future.
Through a new partnership with Community College of Philadelphia’s sound engineering department, a dual enrollment program will allow credits to be earned toward an associate’s certificate in sound production. The Music Industry Apprenticeship Program will train 5 apprentices, 30 hours a week through a 6-month skills-focused rotation, allowing trainees to build networks and hands-on working experience. Through almost 1,000 hours of job training rotation, MIAP trainees will be instructed to choose a skill concentration, including film editing, videography, sound production, lighting design, sound engineering, and more.
