Come along on a journey through space with The Philadelphia Orchestra in this program featuring classical pieces as well as modern day favorites. The concert fittingly blasts off with Richard Strauss' "Dawn," from Also sprach Zarathustra and 2001: A Space Odyssey. The program will also include Haydn's reflection on The Creation of the universe and themes from John Williams' score to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story. The centerpiece of the night is the world premiere of Nolan Williams Jr.'s Hold Fast to Dreams, which pays tribute to Colonel Guion Bluford Jr., hometown hero and first African-American in space, who will be honored onstage during this out-of-this world concert experience. The work will feature The Mann Festival Choir and narration from astronomer Derrick Pitts of The Franklin Institute. Don't miss this evening of wonderment at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts.
