We have recently concluded the 9th season of our Young People’s Concert
Series, and are now embarking on the 10th Anniversary Season of this
overwhelmingly impressive series. Our first season brought 3,000
audience members to The Mann, and this past season we led over 37,000
enthusiastic students and campers on a cultural journey through Russia,
Asia, Africa, Ireland, and America! They had the opportunity to travel
the world without leaving Philadelphia.
The theme for our 2007 Young People’s Concert Series, Capture the
Culture, was expanded in performance by professional, emerging, and
regional youth performing groups who presented these programs on our
main stage. Over 200 performers and 9 performing groups brought
to The Mann the sights, sounds, and rhythms that celebrate the magic
and richness of performing arts from around the world.
HERE ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR 2007 SEASON!
Voices,
Rhymes, and Rhythms on July 18th featured The Philadelphia Boys Choir,
an internationally renowned boys’ choir that performed a diverse
repertoire, and the Mt. Vernon Gospel Knights, a youth gospel choir who
were winners of the 2006 Pathmark Gospel Choir Competition.

An
Asian Experience on July 23rd featured The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, a
contemporary Chinese Dance Troupe, and The Taiko Masala Master
Drummers, who combine the training and discipline of Japanese martial
arts with the precision and power of complex drumming.
Rock
Rhapsody on July 30th featured The Rock School for Dance Education,
which has stood as a superior institution for training aspiring
dancers. During its 40-year history, the school has developed dancers
for The Pennsylvania Ballet and a host of other internationally known
ballet companies in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Multicultural
Encounters on August 1st featured artists who explored the dance
cultures of Ireland, Japan, and Africa: The Coyle School of Irish
Dance; Dance Japan, led by Sachiyo Ito; and The Kulu Mele African
American Dance Ensemble.
